Holistic Approaches to Wellness Through Chiropractic

What does holistic really mean—and why should you care?

These days, the word holistic gets tossed around a lot. Sometimes it conjures images of incense and supplements. Other times, it’s used dismissively—like someone who “just doesn’t trust doctors.” But at its heart, holistic chiropractic wellness simply means looking at the whole person: body, mind, emotions, lifestyle, and even spirit. It’s not anti-medicine. It’s pro-you.

And that distinction is important—because there’s a huge difference between crisis care and care that restores your body to wellness.

Let me paint a picture.

Imagine your house is on fire. You call 911. The fire department arrives, breaks down the door, smashes windows, and sprays everything with water to stop the flames. When it’s over, they’ve saved your home—but the floor is soaked, the furniture is ruined, and your walls are barely standing.

The next morning, you’re walking through the mess, salvaging memories.

Do you call the fire department to rebuild the house?

Of course not. You call a contractor.

Medicine is the fire department. It's life-saving in moments of trauma—heart attacks, strokes, emergencies. And we’re incredibly thankful for it.

But when it comes to healing from chronic stress, rebuilding your health, or recovering from years of poor posture, fatigue, gut issues, anxiety, or burnout? You need the contractor. The builder. Someone who understands how your body works as a whole and how to put the pieces back together again.

That’s where holistic chiropractic care comes in.

Illustration of a two-story house engulfed in flames, symbolizing crisis care in contrast to long-term health rebuilding.
When your house is on fire, you call the fire department. But when the fire is out and it’s time to rebuild, you need a contractor—not more crisis care. The same is true for your health.

Why Holistic Chiropractic Wellness Matters

Let’s talk about where we are as a country.

U.S. healthcare spending is notably higher than in comparable countries. For example, in 2023, the U.S. spent $13,432 per person, while the average for other large, wealthy countries was around $7,393 according to KFF data¹.

And yet… we are one of the sickest developed countries in the world.

According to the Commonwealth Fund’s 2021 report, the U.S. ranks last among 11 high-income nations in healthcare outcomes, access, equity, and efficiency².

It’s not because we don’t care. It’s because our system is built around emergency intervention, not prevention, function, or wellness.

And here’s what I’ve noticed in my own practice over the past 14 years: more and more people are walking through my doors because they’re choosing to—not as a last resort, but because they’re waking up to a better way.

They’re saying, “I don’t want to be on medications anymore.”

Here’s the reality I see daily: people on blood pressure or cholesterol meds who tell me they “don’t have” those issues. But they do. Their numbers are in range because they’re taking the medication. If the medication stopped, the issue would still be there.

Are they healthy? No.

Are they managing symptoms? Yes.

Is that what they want for the rest of their lives? More and more—people are saying no.

From Medication to a Medical Emergency—Because His Body Was Too Healthy

One of the most unforgettable moments in my 14 years of practice came from a patient I’ll call David.

David came into my office not because he was in pain—but because he was ready for change. He told me, “I’m tired of being on meds. I want to do this right.”

He was on medication for high blood pressure. Nothing extreme—but enough to know that if he didn’t start making changes, his future was heading in the wrong direction.

So, he got to work. He started eating better. He began walking regularly—just 20–30 minutes a day, three days a week. He made appointments consistently. He showed up.

Over time, he lost more than 70 pounds.

Then one day—months later—he was sitting in his recliner and stood up to use the bathroom. Suddenly, everything went black.

He collapsed.

An ambulance came. At the ER, the doctors were shocked.

His blood pressure was too low.

Why? Because the meds were working on a body that no longer needed them.

He had healed—through consistent movement, better food, restored nervous system function—and no one had adjusted the medication. The body he worked so hard to rebuild had outgrown the dose that was once necessary.

That day, the doctor took him off all of it.

That’s what’s possible.

What to Expect / Is It Safe?

If you’ve never been to a chiropractor—or had a not-so-great experience elsewhere—it’s normal to feel nervous. Let me put you at ease.

Your first visit includes a consultation, exam, X-rays if needed, and your first adjustment. Every adjustment is personalized. Babies are adjusted differently than adults. Athletes receive different care than seniors.

And yes, chiropractic is very safe. According to PubMed and the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), it has one of the lowest risk profiles in healthcare.

We also support healing between visits. Many patients benefit from posture tools like this, or supplements like our Nervous System Support blend on Fullscript.
